My name is Mr. Hagler and I am one of the Social Studies teachers at Vista PEAK Prep in Aurora, Colorado. I have had a lifelong passion for Social Studies and am thrilled to be exposing others to its importance and great relevance in life. For better or for worse, everything about our country and world has its roots in the interactions of people with the natural world and with each other. When individuals comprehend these interactions, they are better able to empathize with others and thrive in a diverse society.
I was born and raised in Michigan between Detroit and Lansing. After graduating from high school I attended and earned a bachelors degree in History and a Certificate in European Studies from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. My life changed when I received a phone call from a friend who pushed me to apply for a job teaching English in Japan. I spent the next three years teaching English in Kamiichi High School in Toyama, climbing in the Northern Japan Alps, and enjoying learning so much about a different culture. I then spent a year teaching English outside Bangkok before returning to Toyama for a job with a junior high and 7 elementary schools.
I returned to the United States and earned my teaching certificate from Michigan State University with a double major in History and Social Studies and a minor in English. I then packed up the Penske truck and drove west to beautiful Colorado.
I am a constant reader of politics, current events, and history. I have traveled to numerous countries in Europe and Asia, along with Canada and Mexico. I have also been fortunate to have seen great swaths of the United States from the back of the family car on numerous vacations. We were never the family to go somewhere twice; though we were not above stopping again on our way to or from a different destination. Along with teaching, I look forward to exploring more of what the West has to offer and hope to spend a little more time than was afforded when I was young. When I am not teaching, reading, or traveling, I enjoy spending my time with my wife attempting to cook all genres of foods, hiking, and catching up with friends.
